What minerals are found in Coffs Harbour NSW?

Coffs Harbour isn’t widely known for it’s mining history, but not long ago the region was home to hundreds of mines. Mining in the region began in the 1860s when gold was first discovered in the Orara Valley, about 20 km west of Coffs Harbour.
In the early 1900s, attention turned to other minerals in the area, particularly tin. Tin had been discovered in the nearby Dorrigo area in the late 1800s, and in 1901, a tin mine was established at Coramba, about 15 km southwest of Coffs Harbour. The mine operated on and off until the 1960s, producing tin, tungsten, and bismuth. The ore was processed at a plant in Coramba before being transported to Sydney for further refining.
Copper was also mined in Coffs Harbour. In the early 1900s, copper deposits were discovered at Nana Creek, about 10 km southwest of Coffs Harbour. The Nana Copper Mine produced copper, gold, and silver.
