What minerals are found in Murwillumbah NSW?
Gold, silver, tin, copper, lead and zinc
Murwillumbah has a rich mining history that dates back to the 1800s. The main minerals that are found in the area are gold, silver, tin, and copper. In the 1860s, alluvial gold was discovered in the nearby Tweed River, leading to a gold rush that lasted for several years. By the late 1870s, the easily accessible gold had been depleted and mining operations began to focus on extracting other minerals.
Tin and copper mining became major industries in the Murwillumbah area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Rich deposits were discovered in the hills surrounding the town, and a number of copper/tin mines were established.
Silver was also mined in the region, although the deposits were not as abundant as gold, tin and copper. The silver was often found in association with other minerals, such as lead and zinc.
Today, there are no active mines in the area, although the region is still rich in natural resources and minerals. Need a dependable drilling company to help you find them? Give the team at Resolution Drilling a call today.
